Cozy Winter Mudroom

One of the first projects we did upon moving in was transform this room that was right off the garage & connected to a bathroom.

The single coat rack with a dozen hooks wasn’t working. Thanks to Pinterest, I quickly found inspiration & a plan for a functioning mudroom. After seeing that the wooden coat hook had about 100 nails driven into the wall, we decided against taking it out completely & instead took our tour the hooks.
From there we started building the bench. With support pieces on each ends, & 3 pieces in the middle. Once the bench pieces were in, we added the top shelf. This is a must for any mudroom!
I knew I wanted separate spots for each family member & that’s where we added the batten board. Once the boards were in place we added some cut pieces for extra support & help the space look finished.
From there, we were done with the installation! We used paintable wood filler, filling all the holes, sanding & taping off the room for paint. We used cabinet paint in white. Three coats later, the space looked brand new!
Our last touch was hanging our hooks. I chose the double hook which is great for kids backpacks, hats, jackets & countless other things.
Over the past seven years this space has been a lifesaver! Allowing everyone room to put on shoes, drop their backpacks & store countless pairs of shoes was my ultimate goal at the beginning of this project & I am confident that goal has been achieved.
